SEC reopens review of Nasdaq’s bitcoin options approval after CME challenge
The SEC has frozen Nasdaq’s approval for cash-settled QBTC bitcoin index options while the full commission reviews CME’s argument that the product belongs under CFTC, not SEC, jurisdiction. The pause delays a potentially important new U.S. bitcoin derivatives venue and reopens a key regulatory turf fight around commodity-based crypto products.

U.S. wage costs stay firm, reinforcing late-2026 Federal Reserve hike risk
The Employment Cost Index showed civilian compensation rising 0.9% in the June quarter and 3.4% from a year earlier, with private-sector wages and salaries also up 0.9% on the quarter. The data keeps pressure on the Fed after this week’s hawkish hold and supports a higher-yields backdrop that tends to weigh on bitcoin and other duration-sensitive risk assets.

Spot bitcoin ETFs suffer $265 million outflow as BlackRock demand reverses
U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs posted a combined $265.4 million net outflow on July 31, according to Farside, reversing the prior session’s positive print. BlackRock’s IBIT led the withdrawals, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC and Grayscale’s GBTC, a fresh sign that institutional demand remains fragile heading into August.

Coinbase miss and soft guidance sharpen focus on crypto-demand recovery
Coinbase reported a weak second quarter, with revenue of $1.22 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $208 million, as softer prices and subdued trading volumes hit both transaction and subscription businesses. Analysts noted the company still gained share and grew stablecoin and derivatives exposure, but the print underlined how muted spot demand remains across the market.

Bitcoin preserves July gain, but traders brace for a choppier August
Bitcoin finished July still in positive territory despite a hawkish Fed backdrop, the Coldcard wallet fallout and weak sentiment around August positioning. Analysts cited signs that forced selling may be fading, but warned that rate fears, ETF-flow volatility and incoming macro data could keep the market unstable in the near term.

The Bitcoin subreddit is absolutely heartbreaking right now.

So many people have been destroyed.

I recommend having a look because it gives you a different perspective compared to X.

Really sad. https://t.co/WShcJzHNKA
