Fresh US strikes on Iran send oil above $90 and Bitcoin lower
|
|
AP reported on August 31 that U.S. forces struck Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, the first direct military action there in a month. Brent crude moved back above $90 a barrel while U.S. stocks fell, reinforcing the oil-driven inflation risk that matters for Bitcoin and broader risk assets.

Strategy restarts Bitcoin accumulation with $370 million buy after two-month pause
|
|
Strategy said on August 31 it bought 4,603 BTC for $369.7 million at an average price of $80,318, its first weekly purchase since late June. The company now holds 845,050 BTC and paired the buy with preferred-stock repurchases and a larger USD cash buffer, underscoring how public-company balance sheets remain a major source of Bitcoin demand.

Bitcoin ETF inflow streak breaks as $201.9 million exits in one session
|
|
Decrypt reported on August 30 that U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $201.9 million of net outflows on August 28, ending a nine-session run of inflows, while spot Ether ETFs added $102.1 million. The break does not erase August's strong institutional bid, but it shows ETF demand is still highly sensitive to macro repricing and near-$80,000 resistance.

|
|
CoinDesk reported on August 31 that longtime Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr left Ocean, with parent company Mummolin repurchasing his equity stake, after both sides cited differences over mining's future and recent protocol debates. Bitcoin purchases have resumed for @Strategy
While they were raising cash and diluting $MSTR shareholders at 1 mNAV during the recent Bitcoin lows, they now find it advantageous to purchase Bitcoin once it is up 38%.
Bitcoin purchases were made prior to regaining par with $STRC. I do not think the $STRC investors will like this decision. It once again shows a deviation from the stated business objective.
In summary, continued massive dilution for $MSTR shareholders, $STRC still struggling, and Bitcoin purchases at the local top.

๐จ KEVIN WARSH'S RATE HIKE CASE DEPENDS ON THIS WEEK'S JOBS DATA.
At Jackson Hole, he leaned hard on 4.1% unemployment and near record low jobless claims to argue the Fed has room to keep rates high, or go higher, without hurting workers.
That argument only holds up if the numbers keep cooperating.
Three separate labor reports land this week, and each one either backs Warsh up or pulls the rug out from under him.
JOLTs job openings show whether companies are still hiring or quietly pulling back.
ADP gives an early read on private payroll growth before the official number drops.
Then Friday's nonfarm payrolls and unemployment rate settle it. Strong numbers, and the Fed's hawkish tilt gets fully justified.
Weak numbers, and the entire case for a September hike starts falling apart.
On top of that, PPI and CPI data land the week after, right before the FOMC meeting, adding two more data points the Fed can't ignore.
Warsh built his speech on a labor market with no weak spots, and all of it gets tested over these two weeks.

๐จ GLOBAL BOND CRISIS IS GETTING WORSE
Japan's 2Y bond yield hits a new 31-year high.
France's 10Y bond yield reached its highest level since the 2008 Financial Crisis.
Germany's 10Y yield hits a 15-year high.
US 2Y and 5Y bond yields fully reversed Treasury's announcement dump and are about to hit multi-year highs.
And this is not even the worst part.
The Fed is signalling rate hikes, the BOJ will do a hike next month, and other central bankers are becoming hawkish too because of rising inflation.
This is exactly what happened in 2022, and it crashed the global markets.
