FBI pins Binance mega-hack on North Korea and flags laundering addresses
|
|
The FBI said North Korea’s TraderTraitor group was responsible for stealing more than $6 billion in virtual assets from Binance and published a long list of wallet addresses tied to the theft. The notice formalizes state attribution and raises pressure on exchanges, DeFi services and infrastructure providers to block laundering routes before the funds spread further.

Bitcoin mining returns to retail buyers as industrial operators chase AI
|
|
Services such as Sazmining, GoMining and KuMining are pitching industrial-style bitcoin mining access to individuals as some large operators chase higher AI returns. The economics remain difficult, though, with high hardware, power and fee costs stretching payback periods toward or beyond the next halving.

🚨 NEXT WEEK COULD BE ABSOLUTE CHAOS FOR THE GLOBAL MARKETS.
This Friday, over $3 Trillion was wiped out from the global markets.
And next week's events are lining up in such a way that could cause even bigger volatility.
Here's what's coming:
Monday: U.S. ISM Manufacturing PMI, Apple earnings, and Fed Goolsbee's speech.
We saw what happened with the US stock market after Google and Intel earnings, so if Apple misses, markets could dump hard.
Tuesday: U.S. midterm elections, JOLTS job openings, factory orders, and AMD earnings.
The market would be closely watching who could take the House and Senate.
Wednesday: Possible U.S. military strikes on Iran following the elections, ADP employment data, and ISM Services PMI.
Thursday: Challenger corporate layoffs report, weekly jobless claims, and U.S. productivity data.
Friday: U.S. nonfarm payrolls, unemployment rate, wage growth, and consumer sentiment.
So, this week we have big earnings, elections, job reports, and a possible war situation.
And that too when the markets are already looking weak, and there's panic everywhere.
If anything turns against the market, every global asset could take a giant hit.

The FBI is releasing information advising the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) was responsible for the theft of more than $6 billion USD in virtual assets from cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, on or about October 29, 2026. The FBI refers to this specific North Korean malicious cyber activity as "TraderTraitor."
The FBI, together with partners at the USSS and IRS-CI, has observed TraderTraitor actors converting stolen assets primarily into Ethereum (ETH). It is expected these assets will then be further laundered by converting them using DeFi and instant swap services as they prepare them for further laundering stages.
How You Can Help: FBI, USSS, and IRS-CI are urging private sector entities including THORNode operators, RPC node operators, instant exchanges, DeFi services, blockchain analytics firms, and other virtual asset service providers to block transactions with or derived from addresses TraderTraitor actors are using to launder these stolen assets.
A list of addresses associated with this activity is available here: https://t.co/g0oIWx0WeD

BREAKING: Binance says it has restored 90% of the assets stolen in its $6.3 billion hack.
It used part of its SAFU emergency fund, part of its futures insurance fund, and its own treasury.
The remaining 10% hasn't been replenished yet.
Those are smaller tokens that Binance says are harder to buy back.
Binance says withdrawals will reopen tomorrow, but the full proof of reserves won't be ready until Tuesday.

🚨North Korea is now blamed for more than 3 of EVERY 4 dollars hacked in crypto.
Here's its share of all crypto stolen in hacks each year:
2020: 7% 2021: under 10% 2022: 22% 2023: 37% 2024: 39% 2025: 63% 2026: 85% (so far)
In total, its hackers have stolen $12.8 BILLION in crypto since 2017, per TRM Labs.
In just nine months of 2025, its hackers stole at least $1.65 BILLION, per 11 governments.
That's 3.5 times what North Korea earned from ALL of its legal exports that year.
Those governments say the money funds its weapons programs.
The FBI also blamed it for the $1.5 BILLION Bybit hack in February 2025.
Its hackers work in units run by North Korea's main spy agency, per the US Treasury.
The most infamous ones:
Lazarus Group: tied by the FBI to the $620 MILLION Ronin hack in 2022
Andariel: one alleged member has a $10 MILLION US bounty over ransomware attacks on hospitals
TraderTraitor: the FBI's name for the hackers behind the Bybit, DMM Bitcoin and Binance thefts
And it isn't just crypto.
Governments have also blamed it for:
Sony Pictures: thousands of computers knocked out in 2014
Bangladesh's central bank: $81 MILLION stolen in 2016
WannaCry: about 300,000 computers hit in 150 countries, including Britain's NHS
NASA and two US Air Force bases: breached, per a 2024 US indictment
US hospitals: hit with ransomware, with one Kansas medical center paying about $100,000
Sanctions keep coming, but North Korea's hackers haven't slowed down.

Coinbase loans just got a LOT more expensive overnight.
@Coinbase BTC-backed loan interest rates spiked from ~5% to over 13.8%
It's settled down slightly to 9.75% this morning. Currently ~2x the cost of the loan as is was yesterday.
And here's the part most people still don't understand:
Your BTC is used to mint cbBTC out of thin air, which gets pushed onto @Morpho. If Morpho gets hacked or the cbBTC disappears, Coinbase loses none of the collateralized BTC.
You do.
Coinbase keeps the real BTC.
So the borrower gets:
• Smart contract risk • Morpho risk • Wrapped BTC risk
...AND now gets to pay 2x to 3x higher interest for that risk.
How many people understood THAT when they clicked "Borrow"?

Never take out crypto-backed loans. Not even against Bitcoin. Here's my story from the October 10, 2025 crash.
Two months before the crash, I borrowed against 5 bitcoin:native (~$600K at the time) through Coinbase's Morpho lending service.
BTC was trading around $120K. My liquidation price was ~$100K. I figured I'd have plenty of time to add collateral or repay the loan if BTC started falling.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
On October 10, BTC plunged from $120K to $115K, $110K, then $102K within an hour.
I had enough USDC sitting on Coinbase to repay my entire loan. But Morpho stopped working. Repayment attempts failed.
I even tried liquidating other holdings and transferring additional funds. Nothing worked. 10 attempt to pay off the loan and all in vain.
At $103K, I genuinely thought my 5 BTC were gone. I was sitting at my desk contemplating how I would recover from this.
Fortunately, BTC rebounded near $102K. Once the platform stabilized, I repaid everything and withdrew my Bitcoin.
The lesson? Liquidation risk isn't your only enemy. Platform failure during extreme volatility can wipe you out EVEN WHEN YOU HAVE THE FUNDS TO SAVE YOURSELF.
Never again. No leverage. No crypto-backed loans. Not even Bitcoin.
