U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs reverse sharply with $381 million daily outflow
Farside's daily tracker showed U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs swung to a combined $381.5 million net outflow on October 22 after three straight positive sessions. The reversal suggests institutional demand softened just as Bitcoin slipped back toward the low-$80,000s.

The Blockchain Association urged congressional leaders to pass digital-asset tax legislation as broader market-structure efforts remain stalled. Its requests include clearer treatment of small network fees, better privacy protections and more workable reporting rules, underscoring that tax uncertainty still hinders wider Bitcoin use.

Aramco evacuates Dhahran headquarters as Houthi escalation deepens oil supply fears
Saudi Aramco told staff to evacuate its Dhahran headquarters as fighting with Yemen's Houthis intensified, in what Reuters described as the first such evacuation since the Iran war began. The move reinforced fears of wider energy disruption and kept geopolitical risk premia elevated across oil and risk assets, including Bitcoin.

Ireland fines Coinbase unit over safeguarding failures and outsourcing oversight gaps
Ireland's central bank fined Coinbase Ireland €3.25 million for breaches of safeguarding and outsourcing obligations between November 2020 and August 2025. The regulator said the unit allowed designated safeguarding accounts to be underfunded for lengthy periods and relied too heavily on group entities for critical controls.

THIS IS INSANE!!!

A San Francisco startup says it just turned mercury into real gold.

The company is Marathon Fusion. This week they announced they'd made stable gold using fusion neutrons, at 10x the record CERN set in 2025.

CERN's record was 29 picograms over four years. So nobody's pouring bars yet.

The method is what got me. You hit mercury-198 with a fusion neutron. It loses a neutron, becomes mercury-197, and over the next few days decays into gold-197. The exact same gold sitting in central bank vaults.

Their 2025 paper says a one-gigawatt fusion plant built this way could make around 2 tonnes of gold a year as a side product, while it's selling electricity.

I've said it for years. Gold is a shiny rock. It's valuable because there's only so much of it and pulling it out of the ground is hard and expensive.

If this holds up, gold's scarcity turns into an engineering problem. And you can only delay technical progress. You can't stop it.

To be fair, the gold comes out mixed with radioactive isotopes and would need to sit for well over a decade before it's safe to touch. Nobody outside the company has verified the result yet, and commercial fusion is still years away.

Peter Schiff has spent years telling everyone Bitcoin has no intrinsic value.

This week a startup says it made gold out of mercury.

There will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin. No reactor on Earth can make one more.

The Bitcoin security hysteria is hilarious. There is no technology on earth more battle tested than BTC. It has had a giant target on its back since day one because it holds actual money that can be stolen with no accountability. Every hacker on the planet has tried for 16 years. Nobody has cracked the protocol. Meanwhile, hacking everything else is getting cheaper and easier by the day. Your money is at far greater risk sitting in a bank or brokerage account. Someone wires it out and the bank says you authorized it. Now prove you didn’t. Good luck with that…🚀

Bitcoin Core is updating its security disclosure policy in response to the flood of AI-discovered vulnerabilities. Antoine Poinsot on the Bitcoin-Dev mailing list:

"This is largely due to LLMs drastically reducing the bar to find certain classes of issues or identify covert fixes. For these issues that are easy to find, the embargo period achieves little but it delays the availability of a fixed release."

Bugs that an LLM can find with a simple prompt will now get backported fixes and fast-tracked releases instead of sitting behind a long embargo.

🚨JUST OUT: U.S. initial jobless claims FALL to 194,000, below expectations of 200,000 and the previous reading of 199,000.

Jobless claims have now hit a THREE-MONTH LOW, signaling fewer layoffs and continued strength in the U.S. labor market.

A resilient labor market gives the Fed LESS reason to cut interest rates, potentially pushing the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields HIGHER while putting pressure on stocks and crypto.
