Fed decision now dominates Bitcoin after Senate setback and rate-hike expectations
Bitcoin traded near $75,800 as markets entered the Fed decision with a quarter-point hike almost fully priced. Traders are now focused less on the move itself than on whether Chair Kevin Warsh signals more tightening, a message that could reset rates, the dollar and risk appetite across crypto.

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs suffer biggest daily outflow since late June
U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted $450.33 million of net outflows on Sept. 15, the heaviest single-day withdrawal since June 25. The redemptions erased Monday's rebound and underscored weakening institutional demand as bitcoin hovered around $75,700.

Strong U.S. retail sales harden higher-for-longer backdrop ahead of Fed
U.S. retail sales rose 1.2% in August, well above expectations, with the control group up 1.4%. The data point to resilient demand despite higher fuel costs and reinforce the higher-for-longer backdrop facing bitcoin ahead of the Fed.

Coinbase premium turns deeper negative as U.S. Bitcoin demand softens
Bitcoin's Coinbase premium fell to around -0.07%, its deepest discount in four weeks, signaling softer U.S. spot demand relative to offshore markets. The move came as bitcoin slid toward $75,000 and as yields, oil and regulatory uncertainty kept pressure on risk assets.

CoinShares says AI economics will keep listed miners leaving Bitcoin
CoinShares said a bitcoin price rebound is unlikely to reverse the shift of listed miners toward AI and high-performance computing. At least 35 EH/s of hashrate is already slated to leave the public-miner cohort, reinforcing that the mining industry's supply side is changing structurally.

πŸ—žοΈ Senate rejects Clarity Act, triggering the month's biggest STH capitulation

Yesterday, the Clarity Act failed to pass the Senate, with the vote ending 49 in favor and 50 against, short of the 60 votes needed to advance.

All Democrats voted against it, joined by three dissenting Republicans (Collins, Hawley, and Moran), while Thom Tillis, who voted yes, changed to no at the end as part of a procedural motion intended to allow the text to be reconsidered later.

Elizabeth Warren, one of the bill's leading opponents, had urged her colleagues to vote against it just minutes before the vote.

This setback, coming as senators leave Washington in early October until after the midterms, likely pushes any regulatory clarity for the U.S. crypto market back to 2027.

This uncertainty triggered a wave of panic across the markets.

On Bitcoin, this shock particularly triggered panic among STHs.
Their inflows to exchanges rose from 19 400 BTC to 33 100 BTC, with more than 10 000 on Binance alone, still favored for its market depth.

However, it was on Kraken that inflows surged the most, jumping from a normal day of around 2 000 to 3 000 BTC to more than 6 000 yesterday.
On the institutional side, Coinbase Advanced recorded 7 300 BTC, a typical level suggesting the sell-off wave did not reach large institutional wallets.

But what stands out most is that the majority of these BTC were held at a loss.
With 23 200 BTC sent to exchanges at a loss, this STH capitulation event is the largest recorded over the past month.

This regulatory shock highlighted the structural nervousness among STHs, who are capable of deploying large amounts of BTC in a short span of time.

It's officially Fed day.

Markets now see a 93% chance that the Fed will announce its first rate hike since July 2023 today.

In data going back to 2008, whenever expectations of a hike have been this high, the Fed has invariably delivered one.

If the Fed decided to leave interest rates unchanged today, it would mark the biggest dovish surprise at a scheduled policy meeting since 1994.

However, it's a particularly unusual time right now.

Fed Chair Warsh was appointed by President Trump just months ago with the expectation that he would CUT rates.

Now, markets expect Warsh's first change to the Fed Funds Rate to be a hike.

We expect a highly eventful day.

Turn on our post notifications at @KobeissiLetter for real time analysis as the Fed decision is announced.
