Bank of Japan raises rates again and keeps tightening bias intact
The Bank of Japan raised its money market operations target to around 1.25% in a 7-2 vote, with the new setting taking effect on September 24. The BOJ said underlying inflation is approaching 2%, flagged Middle East oil, AI-driven demand and yen weakness as upside risks, and signaled it will continue raising rates as conditions warrant.

Iran claims fresh Hormuz tanker strike as shipping risks hit oil routes
Iran said it struck a Togo-flagged tanker trying to transit the Strait of Hormuz, while a U.K. maritime agency also reported a vessel was hit by a projectile and briefly caught fire. The incident keeps one of the world's key energy chokepoints under pressure, sustaining oil and inflation risk for Bitcoin's macro backdrop.

Houthi advance in Yemen deepens threats to Saudi oil export flows
AP reported the Houthis are pushing toward Yemen's oil-rich east after seizing a Red Sea city and strategic islands, while attacks on Saudi facilities and tankers have already rattled markets. The widening front broadens pressure on regional energy infrastructure beyond Hormuz and reinforces the oil shock feeding global rate fears.

Treasury yields near 5% keep pressure on risk assets and bitcoin
The U.S. 10-year Treasury yield climbed back to 4.98% on Friday after topping 5% earlier in the week, while oil prices stayed volatile and stocks traded mixed. Elevated yields and energy-driven inflation risk continue to tighten financial conditions for risk assets even as bitcoin steadies.

Bitcoin ETFs rebound with fresh inflows while ether funds extend withdrawals
CoinDesk reported U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs took in roughly $159 million on Thursday, even as ether funds lost about $39 million for a third straight session and XRP products also slipped. The split suggests institutional demand is stabilizing around bitcoin first as markets digest tighter policy and easing oil prices.

Wall Street is MORE bearish on Bitcoin than gold right now.

JPMorgan says that's exactly why Bitcoin has more upside, with gold ETFs recovering ALL their 2026 outflows while Bitcoin ETFs have recovered only HALF.

BlackRock's IBIT has short interest near its highest level of the year while gold's GLD sits below its historical average.

If this hedging unwinds, Bitcoin could get MORE support than gold because there are simply more shorts to cover, per JPMorgan.

After two days of the most significant net outflows seen in the past four months, ETFs turned back to buying yesterday.

Total crypto ETF netflows stand at +$119M. Bitcoin captured the bulk of the flows with +$159M. Ethereum, on the other hand, saw $39M in net outflows.

Worth noting: $4.3M in inflows for Hype.

This end of week appears calmer on the ETF front.

ICYMI: Listed companies added just 5.9K $BTC over three months, versus 89K in July 2025 alone.

With spot just below their $80.5K average cost basis, corporate buyers face modest unrealized losses while providing little fresh demand.
