Liquid sidechain halts after 4,000 BTC exploit and white-hat return offer
Liquid Network halted new transactions after purported white-hat hackers withdrew roughly 4,000 of the 4,200 BTC backing L-BTC in the federation wallet. Blockstream said the issue stemmed from an Elements software bug rather than compromised keys, and the attacker signaled on-chain that the funds would be returned after every node is patched.

Tether faces fresh security warning over two-key control of $91 billion USDT
A new Hacken security assessment said roughly $91.3 billion of Tron-based USDT can be controlled by a 2-of-3 multisig with no timelock or rollback, meaning two compromised keys could let an attacker mint, freeze or reassign the contract. The report found no breach, and Bluechip simultaneously upgraded Tetherโ€™s corporate grade after a KPMG audit, but the architecture risk is material because USDT remains core market plumbing.

Bitcoin wallets flip to distribution as $83,000 sell wall stalls breakout
Glassnode data cited by CoinDesk shows all wallet cohorts have moved into net distribution for the first time since early June, with whales holding at least 1,000 BTC leading the selling. Bitcoin has repeatedly failed near $83,000 and is now testing whether $80,000 can hold while a potential golden cross develops.

Bitcoin looks less rate-sensitive than gold in latest hard-asset study
CoinDeskโ€™s latest correlation study suggests Bitcoin is behaving more like a hard monetary asset than gold on rates days. Over the past 90 days, BTCโ€™s correlation with 10-year Treasury yields was just -0.17 versus -0.41 for gold, implying rising yields have recently hurt Bitcoin less than the metal.

BREAKING: Bank of America warns a September downturn could trigger $163 billion in forced selling from algorithmic trading funds.

Right now, these funds only have about $9 billion left to buy with if stocks go up.

But if stocks start falling, the same funds could be forced to sell up to $163 billion, an 18-to-1 imbalance between the upside and the downside.

On top of that, companies are entering their buyback blackout period in September, meaning they legally can't buy back their own stock right before earnings.

That removes another major buyer from the market at the exact same time.

Put together, there's very little support left to stop a drop, but a lot of fuel ready to make it worse.

THIS IS INSANE.

A hacker just stole $320 million worth of Bitcoin from Blockstream's Liquid Network.

Now he is talking to the developers through on-chain messages and says he will return funds once the bug is fixed. https://t.co/m3NjYVDZxE

Retail is still selling bitcoin:native even while the price is going up.

Instead of chasing the rally, smaller investors are using every bounce to exit.

That usually happens when people donโ€™t trust the move and think another dump could be coming.

The market is going up, but retail still looks scared.

THE BLOCK: Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin pushed back on a prediction that AI could cause bitcoin to crash 50% or more within two years by undermining its perceived security.

Buterin said the probability of actual breaks in Bitcoin's hashes or proof-of-work is "tiny." https://t.co/z9BOZp1s4A
